Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on recently

An individual who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.

Ruben conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his worries.

She said the man went on to play the "treat game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement a second time.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five children.
