PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
