Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking official said the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
